Nobody in their right mind would call the author of this diatribe — which pulled no punches in calling the “majority” of NYU students lazy — a decent politician. In her Feb. 12 op/ed, Meredith Dolgin declared triumphantly, “As the CAS student council president, I can justifiably say that the majority of you have done nothing at all.” (To her credit, “do[ing] nothing” refers to school issues, not just plain nothing.)That’s why it came as no surprise to me to see that Dolgin is in all likelihood as corrupt as they come.
Worse, it’s clear that she can’t be the sharpest tool in the shed, either. What politician insults her constituents? What future job seeker goes autocratic a month before graduation?
Hats off to Megan Cruz for recording what is sure to be a damning conversation with Dolgin in early February:
“If I didn’t want you on the council, I wouldn’t have you on the council. I’d get rid of you — easily,” Dolgin said in the tape. “I mean, I keep people when I want to keep people, and I get rid of people when I want to get rid of people.”
Ms. Dolgin appears to be pre-law from her Facebook profile, so here’s hoping she had no plans for constitutional law. No need to read this story twice to infer that she is no fan of democracy.

i second that… GREAT JOB MEGAN CRUZ. corruption is hard to prove, but how can a statement like that really be ignored.
If she wants for us to get off our lazy asses, lets go to one of these student council meetings and ask for her impeachment.
**Student Council meetings are on Tuesdays @ 7 pm in the Heights Alumni Lounge (1st Floor Waverly)
i think it’s really ridiculous that so many articles are making puns with this “get off your ass” stuff when meredith didn’t even choose that title. the paper wrote that. this whole thing is crazy.
thanks anon, i’m glad someone noticed that. wsn is making puns off of the title they, themselves, chose.
Wait — THE Meredith Dolgin? The hottie from page 3 of the Post today? It’s a honor.
Let’s be fair.
First, in fairness, I was making the pun, not WSN. I’m still noticing a little difficulty separating the columnists from the publication as a whole.
Second, in fairness, from where do Team Meredith & Anon think our copy editors drew that choice headline? How about the sentence immediately succeeding the one I used in my post?
The majority of you have sat on your lazy asses and complained.
The headline looks fair to me — Dolgin thought it was fair to say that the “majority” of the student body “sat on [their] lazy asses,” and it follows that the objective of her op/ed was to hoist her little babies off of those asses.
As the deputy opinion editor, I should also note that there was no complaint from Dolgin immediately after we ran it. And I do think it’s fair to say that if Dolgin found it unfair, she would have, um, politely told us about it sans snark.
