People say WSN isn’t objective? Hah. It doesn’t get more objective than this: “…eccentric freelance timekeeper, standing just under 5 feet.”
A month ago, Mike suggested I write an opinion column on this guy. Had I done that, readers would have received a much more precise description: “He’s a crazy fucking midget who wears a t-shirt all winter in the park.”
(Midget is PC, right?)
Honestly, I think the euphemistic language is almost more insulting than what I would have written. It’s like derisively pretending he’s normal.
Votta says he lives in a single room occupancy hotel on 12th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues, although WSN could not find any building matching Votta’s description.
Did the reporters go back and ask if they accidentally heard the address wrong? How would they have treated a “regular” interview subject whose info didn’t check out?
The subtext: “We just think he’s a homeless liar!”
“Similar ambiguity surrounds his career.”
NYU timekeeper is not an acceptable career? That’s my second major.
