Innovation for science education

Lisette Lopez (left), 17, and Julio Ibanez (right), 17, of The Renaissance Charter School in Queens display the oobleck they made at the Sci Ed Innovators Conference at NYU. The two high school students created the "After School Science Program" to increase elementary school student interest in science. They were part of a group of students who presented their science projects in the Rosenthal Pavilion on Sunday. The event honored the late Professor Sreyashi Jhumki Basu, who worked to encourage youth scientific achievement before she died of breast cancer in 2008.
