Renovations at Bobst Library that began last spring are mostly complete, according to Beth Morningstar, NYU's director of strategic assessment and communications.
The purpose of the remodeling is to revamp 13 classrooms, 10 of which are general-purpose classrooms that are available to students in all NYU schools for any academic purpose. Morningstar explained that some classrooms at NYU are school-specific.
"Those general-purpose classrooms were renovated to be more light, more pretty," she said.
The other three were turned into graduate classrooms, which were available for use the first day of classes this semester.
"The space was reconfigured so that we made better use of the existing space for these three additional classrooms," Morningstar said.
In addition, the restrooms on Bobst's LL-1 level were expanded and given "face-lifts."
Bobst is no longer in a renovation phase, according to Morningstar. Rather, the library is in a punch-list phase. That means renovations have been completed and small details, such as paint chips, are being fixed.
"Once the construction is essentially complete, then the project manager ... and the contractor walk through to see if there are any small items that need to be repaired," Morningstar said.
CAS senior Ashley Lekwauwa said she is satisfied with the renovations. But she noted that she felt inconvenienced at times, such as when the lounge area near the LL-1 restrooms was closed on a recent weekend.
Steinhardt junior Diana Cole said the renovations have not bothered her so far.
"I like the classroom that I have down here," Cole said. "It's not much of a problem for me."
