Historic playhouse will not be demolished by NYU as previously reported

By Alvin Chang

The Provincetown Playhouse will not be demolished to make way for NYU’s Law faculty research centers, which was what NYU previously planned.

Community groups, led by the alway-active Andrew Berman, wanted the building preserved because of its historic value. Surprisingly, NYU gave in — this time. But it might also have something with Manhattan borough President Scott Stringer getting involved and pushing for the preservation.
