Glamour with an edge at topshop

Topshop is a rock chick's paradise this fall — when you walk into the store these days, it's metal, faux fur, leather and lace galore.

Topshop seems to be promoting some serious leg love at the moment. Micro-minis bedecked in sequins, shiny lamé, edgy studs, graphic floral prints and everything in between dominate the three floors of women's clothing. Ultra-short, coquettish party dresses in ladylike laces and cheery florals seem to beckon from the racks.

Brittany Weeden, assistant publicist for Topshop, said structured dresses, mini-dresses and mini-skirts have been the most popular items for fall.

Shimmer and shine have also worked their way into the store in slouchy tank tops, structured tees, cropped boleros and glimmering harem pants. Animal prints also make an appearance on everything from a python-print cardigan to a pink-and-purple cheetah print tube dress that the Topshop dubs the "boobtube."

According to Weeden, Christopher Kane's collection for Topshop has been popular for fall. The high-fashion designer's collection for the SoHo store includes body-skimming dresses, innovative hoodies, mesh hot pants and knit vests embellished with eyelets and tiny mirrors.

The Kate Moss for Topshop collection also rocks Topshop's fall line-up. The collection is a mix of easy-breezy Bohemian separates, such as flowy dresses and suede culottes, and more dramatic statement pieces with Eastern European touches such as a vividly-embroidered blazer and a full-length leather coat.

Not to be left in the dust is Topshop's in-house high-fashion label, Unique, whose fall collection is composed mostly of '80s throwbacks: think metallic foil-coated jeans, pants so bright and sequined they resemble disco balls, and neon mesh dresses.

When it comes to accessories, Topshop's motto for fall is "go big or go home." From sky-high platform pumps and ridiculously oversized hair bows to shoulder-skimming earrings the size of one's fist, and giant metal necklaces that rival a medieval coat of arms, this season's accessories are all about making a statement. But for the biggest accessories, be prepared to shell out some big bucks. A massive chain-linked neckpiece can cost as much as $100.

The store's rock-'n'-roll-chic items — though easy to overdo — can add just the pop of posh your look needs when worn individually. For a student budget, just a couple of stand-out items can make you a sassy sensation for fall, whether you're an actual rock maven or a princess of prep. We'll never tell.

Topshop is located at 478 Broadway off Broome Street in SoHo.
